Well, the heat of summer is upon us and families are planning their summer vacations and activities. Just Gotta Dance will not be having class for the month of July. We will return on Friday night August the 5th. Many of our families are taking vacations during this time and there is a great clogging workshop in Waco in mid July. If you would like information on the workshop just drop me a line and I can send that to you. I have heard it is one of the best workshops there is and the national instructors are Scotty Bilz and Josh King. So looking forward to it! Also, one performance note, our performance at Woolaroc had to be cancelled due to a scheduling issue. More performances will be posted on the website as they are booked. See ya in August!
Summer is here and we are in the midst of our performance season. We just uploaded new performance videos to our Youtube channel from the Jenks Herb and Plant Festival and Rooster Days in Broken Arrow. Just go to Youtube, search on 'thecloggingdad' and this will pull up our channel with performance and also teaching videos. We are now preparing for a 2 hour clogging performance at Woolaroc near Bartlesville on June 25th. We will be dancing from 11:00-1:00, come and support our group and enjoy Kidsfest 2011. We have a great group of performers that are very dedicated to putting on an entertaining show. And at almost every performance this year we have had new faces joining our group. Some new dancers, some that have not danced for 10 or 15 years and are getting back into it again. It is great fun and clogging sure beats jogging. We will have a new beginners class starting late Summer in either August or September. Email me at cloggingdad@yahoo.com for more information.

Hope to see you soon! Last weekend 13 people from our group had the great experience of going to City Slicker Stomp in Kansas City, put on by Missy Shinoski. It is a great clogging workshop with many talented instructors and organized very well. For many of us it has become an annual event and we look forward to it every year. For some it was their first trip and they had great fun and hopefully will join us now on our annual trip to the event. Workshops are a great way to meet other cloggers and for instructors to gather new material and just see how others teach. Also, you get to see friends that you have not seen in a while, like my buddies at Turtle Creek. It was a great time and look forward to what Missy will have for us next year. Keep clogging strong and the only way to do that is to participate.
Now can't wait to see all my cloggers who were not able to come with us, See ya Friday night! Clogging is a great way to make new friends
If you would like to find an outlet to meet people and make new friends, give clogging a try. There are groups all across the US and in many other countries that are great places to find a clogging buddy. On my travels I have attended clogging classes in many locations to meet new instructors and groups. It is great fun to see how different instructors conduct their classes and each class has it’s own personality and enjoys different styles of music and dance. One of my favorite clogging groups has been the Lakeside Cloggers in Lake Worth, Texas (near Fort Worth). Jackie and Rob Meinecke are great instructors and foster such a fun atmosphere. I always love it when I get to visit them and their group. Below is a couple of pics of me with the Lakeside Cloggers! If you live in the area and need a fun place to dance you need to give their group a try. I would be there every week if I lived near Lake Worth. Texas cloggers are great fun, will introduce you to another group from Texas soon. And remember clogging beats jogging! Had a great class last night. We have some wonderful people in our group that like to get together and have a great time dancing. Wanted to let everyone know that we have our first performance of 2011 scheduled. We will be dancing at the Jenks Herb and Plant festival on April 23rd in the morning, exact time to be announced later. Come on over to Jenks and check us out. We have been working very hard the first couple of months adding new songs and routines to our performance list.
If you are interested in learning clogging, we will be starting our Spring classes very soon. Contact me at cloggingdad@yahoo.com for more information and to reserve your spot in the class. It is great fun and an excellent form of exercise. If you would like to come by and watch a class let me know and I can give you the details. Hope to dance with you soon! I can remember dancing for as long as I could breathe. I am sure I had to have come out of the womb dancing. Then when I was in the ninth grade I met this beautiful girl that took my breath away and we became best friends. After a couple of years of being friends she was preparing to dance in a 24 hour dance marathon to benefit Muscular Dystrophy with a mutual friend who ended up having a conflict a couple of weeks prior to the event. She asked me if I would like to fill in for him, and I said sure, so we spent the next two weeks practicing all the popular dances of the day as often as we could. During this two weeks I put a spell on her and somehow she finally fell for me, I had fallen for her the first day I laid eyes on her. So we decided to take our relationship to the next level and so our ‘first date’ was to go to a 24 hour dance marathon. So our relationship started with dance and hopefully when it is my time to go it will be on a dance floor somewhere when I am about 100. We started clogging about 1990 in Tahlequah, Oklahoma with an awesome instructor, Betty Stretch, and I have never met anyone that I thought could teach any better than Betty. Once the clogging bug bit it never let go. I have danced with several groups in Tahlequah and Tulsa and started teaching about 5 years ago and that brings us to current day where me and that beautiful brown eyed girl are still dancing together and privileged to lead Just Gotta Dance.
Greatest Clogging Group in Tulsa
I could be a little bit prejudice but at least I think so. I have added some videos and pictures of some of our 2010 performances. Be sure to check out those new additions to our website. As we get into Spring we will begin performing again and will post new videos and pictures from these events as our group is constantly growing and adding new great performers. I love teaching new people and their zeal to learn fuels my fire to be a better dancer, teacher, and choreographer. Whether you have clogged before or just want to learn, come join us. Well, after searching and trying to find the perfect format and way to set up our webpage for Just Gotta Dance, we finally have posted our opening page. Our picture was taken last Friday night and due to many of our dancers being gone for Spring Break, several are not in our picture, I think we counted eight of us that were not in the picture. So look for an updated picture very soon. We are excited as our group continues to grow and are looking forward to dancing at several festivals and other venues this Spring and Summer. Our cloggers are the best! Keep checking back as we will be adding more content on a weekly basis.
